Printing Technologies
Screen printing is one of the first type of colour printing technique that started around 1907. It is a hand method of direct fabric printing in which screens are used to transfer patterns on to the fabric. The screens are placed on the fabric and a wooden squeegee is used to work the color through the porous screen on to the fabric.
BENEFITS:
It is best for larger quantities as it is most cost effective.
>Able to print on dark coloured fabric.
LIMITATIONS:
Unable to print gradient colours (only solid colours)
Print may not be as precise/perfect as this is hand printed.
Digital printing refers to methods of printing digital images directly on fabrics using inkjet ink.
BENEFITS:
Able to print full color and gradation print and various design possibilities without limitation.
Shorter processing tie as printing is done in one process.
Low cost for for small volume production/ multiple designs print
LIMITATIONS:
Print tends to fade faster than other methods.
Cost tends to get expensive for large volume print.
Thermal transfer printing is a technology that uses heat to transfer images that are first printed on a treated transfer paper onto the fabric.
BENEFITS:
Able to print full color and gradation print and various design possibilities without limitation.
Prints is less prone to fading.
